2019 Annual Regional Workshop Success!

This month we hosted our 2019 Annual Regional Workshop. Held at the end of the fiscal year for our partners to be able to bring some Emergency Management insights back to their organizations. This year we had two guest speakers: Riverside Health System and Chelsea Treboniak from Critical Ops.

Riverside Health Systems gave an insightful presentation in regards to evacuating one of their Long Term Care Facilities in Mathews, VA during Hurricane Florence. They presented the audience with tips and tricks to use during an evacuation as well as lessons learned. Riverside Health System on the coast of Virginia and is comprised of 5 Acute Care Hospitals, over 100 Physician Practices, a Home Health & Hospice division, 10 Long Term Care facilities, 3 Ambulatory Surgical Centers, and 1 Behavioral Health Center

Before Lunch we broke into two sessions: a New Member Orientation or a NSPA Business Meeting. During lunch Robert Hawkins, Executive Director, presented Awards to outstanding leaders / organizations within the Healthcare Coalition this past year. He recognized the following groups:

  • Outstanding Individual: Eric Gordon
  • Outstanding Organization: Snyder Nursing Home
  • Outstanding Partner: Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport
  • Legacy: Mike Guzo

The afternoon sessions were led by Chelsea Treboniak, co founder of Critical Ops. She is a wealth of knowledge in Risk Management as well as business planning. Her motto "Teach Life a Lesson" really empowered the audience. Her first presentation on Supply Chain Disruption really brought on good conversation between different healthcare interests within the industry. She explained the break down of what that may look like within your own organization and presented ways to approach building your own plan.

The day ended with a conversation around the Power of Communication and how that plays an important role in healthcare emergency management as well as our everyday lives.
